Live & Kicking

Settle down everyone, settle down, I thought I'd tell you a little story as I'm on placement at the moment and haven't been out in forever! It was 1999 and I was 11 and super excited because my dad's work friend's mum (stay with me here) was the producer of Live N Kicking (if you aren't English, this was a kids tv show that was on in the morning on the weekend in the 90s) and I got to take 1 friend - ohemgee how exciting!

Only kidding, they didn't say oh em gee back in the olden days. Fierce were the band playing...

I hope you guys realise how cool I am. Anyways so Rachel my beloved childhood BFF and I got all dressed up (cue disgusting 90s clothes) and went to the BBC studios and my dad waved us off after our bags got checked by security (so official!!). We were herded into a little room and given a goody bag and told where to leave our stuff. And basically we got moved round the studio to cheer. Culminating in the best event of the day - Rachel getting hit in the back accidentally by Mr Blobby! A real celebrity! Ahem. True story. If you non-English people don't know who Mr Blobby is, this is he.

Very exciting, I think you'll all agree, just have to excuse myself to listen to the Mr Blobby song... Anyways at one point I was sitting in the audience for the interview for one of the guests of the day, Jennifer Saunders, whilst Rachel went to watch some football mini game they had. I think even then we weren't excited about Jennifer Saunders... What kid watched French and Saunders? But look!! There's a video of the interview on YouTube I found!! Aaahhhh!!! And I'm there!! Fast forward to the interview and the camera pans onto the audience up and along the stairs, I'm second up and on the left - the one that continually plays with her hair. And if you needed further convincing when everyone else is clapping I'm waving madly at the camera... I guess that's why they missed my close up... Rude.

If you guys want autographs you'd better line up.

Yes I Yell At The TV

Since I changed from my regular desk job as a secretary to a nursing student and part time HCA my schedule's been different from the Monday-Friday 9-5 and the unthinkable has happened. I occasionally catch day time TV, I seem to catch no end of quiz shows whilst working on assignments.

They're the sort of thing I put on in the background then find myself getting irritated with and turning off the TV.

I've discovered that these shows have 3 key ingredients; know it alls; cheesy hosts and incredibly low prize money that seems almost impossible to actually win for the poor hapless contestants.

Pointless is my least favourite, the boyfriend sometimes watches this when it's my turn to cook dinner and I find myself getting wound up and shouting the answers at the TV. Also, the host is the smarmiest of the smarmy quiz hosts, I just can't stand him. You might recognise him from those god awful insurance adverts, I'm not sure if he's been in other things but the fact remains that he shouldn't have been! Sometimes when answers are revealed by the little factual answer man in the corner he'll wait for him to say the answer then nod along and say ah yes of course it was such and such and I just think... you didn't know that answer, Mr Smarm! Be away with you.

Turn Back Time - The Family

I've started watching Turn Back Time - The Family lately (episodes are on the BBC iplayer now for all you Brits). It's a TV series where they've taken this row of terraces, gutted them and re-decorated them to look as they would have done in different time periods over the last 100 years in England.

All the insides look pretty good, so far we've had Edwardian times for the first episode and the second was the 20s and depression. The next episode is the war years and the 40s.

There are three families the viewers follow. Their family trees are looked at and they assume the life of one of them e.g. lower class chauffeur, upper class mill manager etc.

Here's the lower class family having their things taken away by the government so they can receive welfare in the depression.

The upper class family having a nice little stroll

The lower class family who are servants for the upper class family

The TV show didn't focus too much on the middle class family, maybe because they seemed to get on quite well with minimal drama! Well worth a watch if you have the time.
