Birthday Train Cake

The boyfriend and I have a tradition where each birthday (see here - castle and treasure chest) we make each other a silly cake. This year for the boyfriend I decided to make a train cake and by make, I mean cheat and just stick together. First I got two Madeira cakes and chopped them into blocks for the train and the carriage.

Then I got some Betty Crocker chocolate fudge icing and iced the blocks.

Chopped up some strawberry laces for track, added Oreos for wheels, brownies and a mini roll for the train.

Then I piled up sweets on the carriage with a bit more icing.

Et voila, 40 minutes and you have a birthday cake.

My Week & The Quest For My Nanny's Cake

As you may know I have been on the quest for a replica to my lovely Nanny's chocolate cake, the very best chocolate cake I have ever had. So I tried a new recipe yesterday.

Tasty but too much sugar.

I got a gift card from my Mum in the post which was a nice surprise. I also had a big exam for drug calculations, I don't have the marks back yet but I think it went pretty good. Only a month left on placement and two more exams then it's summer holidays time! Yay!

Easy Apple Pudding

I had extra apples the other day so I was googling recipes to use them up until I found that my mum had put a lovely apple pudding recipe in a recipe tin she gave me although - I don't remember her ever making me this!

I cracked 3 eggs.

I added my sifted sugar and flour

Gave it a good whisk with a fork

I got my apples

Gave them a chop and lined the bottom of my tin (although I have a smaller tin than I needed so I used less sugar and flour). I only needed about 2 and a half so I ate the other half left over to destroy the evidence and taste test - very important.

Then I covered my chopped apples with the batter

Cooked it for 30 mins, checked and then left it in for another 10 mins

Then my apple pud was done

Tasty tasty!

Birthday Cake

It was my birthday yesterday, I asked for a cherry bakewell castle complete with drawbridge and moat and look how well the boyfriend delivered!

Very impressed !

The rest of my day was spent on placement in hospital so I was glad to get home and open my cards and gifts as you can imagine.

So Close (But Yet So Far)!

I was lucky to have lovely nanny and granddad who adopted my dad and they were the very best sort of people, the sort of people who would make a tasty chocolate cake every time our family came to visit them. No matter what time of day we arrived from Wiltshire, usually late at night, as soon as we got to their bungalow it was time to break out the chocolate cake.

And this was no ordinary chocolate cake mind you, it was the best cake anyone has ever tasted and now that my lovely nanny has passed away it's my eternal regret that I didn't get the recipe. The only thing I know about the cake is that the secret ingredient was drinking chocolate. I dream about that cake...

Today I decided I'd bake something but I only had plain flour and no cocoa so I decided I'd make some little muffins using drinking chocolate instead of cocoa... they were soo tasty, not quite up to my nanny's standards but they were on the right lines. Next time SR flour and a big victoria sponge-esque type creation, with the drinking chocolate. I'm so close to the best ever chocolate cake I can feel it! And taste it, yum!

Giant Cake

I'm just saying...

If faced with this many cakes...

What would Jesus you do?

I couldn't eat it all but I gave it a very good attempt ha ha
